Designing an Art Museum Through Spatial Narratives

This project employs the design philosophy of Espace Moderne, incorporating a simple one-point perspective sketch technique with shading to capture depth, direction, and movement within the space. Drawing inspiration from modern art and architectural theory, I designed a 30m x 30m square museum on a fictional site. The project carefully curates spatial experiences along the paths, using natural light to enhance the emotional depth of the journey.

In a post-pandemic world, the museum becomes a metaphor for reuniting with loved ones—a space where the surreal joy of reconnection is mirrored in the architecture. The design expresses the feelings of anticipation and emotional resonance through spatial elements, creating an environment that embodies the romanticism of human relationships.

Visiting this museum mirrors the experience of falling in love—at times intense, at times serene. The dynamic interaction of light, shadow, and movement within the space adapts to diverse perspectives and emotions. This project aims to dissolve the subtle barriers between people, inviting them to reconnect, share moments of reflection, and experience the architecture together.

Through carefully designed pathways and staircases, visitors journey deeper into the museum, experiencing the interplay of light and shadow that conveys architectural emotions. The museum becomes not only a space for appreciating art but also a medium for emotional connection and storytelling.

Radiance Code tools were utilized to parameterize facade materials and analyze the 3D geometry of the building, ensuring the practicality and functionality of the design. This analysis informed potential modifications, enhancing the museum’s spatial performance and its ability to evoke emotional responses.
